It’s truly a literary gem.'Haunted is a novel made up of stories- twenty-three of them to be precise. The man has such a way with words and a very unique sense of story telling. It’s written in a unique way that definitely compels you to keep turning pages. I strongly recommend this book for any horror fans. My very first Palahniuk read, and certainly not my last. I collected my peppermint hot chocolate from the cafe (my typical bookstore drink), and promptly headed to the counter to check out. Finished the story and had to take a moment to reflect and calm my nerves. Had to sit down in a window seat from some of the imagery. Complete with gasps, squeals, “OMG!!”s, and dry heaving. I flip open the book and land right on the first page of Guts.Īnd now of course, I’m pacing around the store reading this excerpt. But then It DID glow!! So now, I’m picking it up and trying to find out what it’s about. As fast as I did it, I felt embarrassed and regretted my reaction. Then, I make a bee line straight for it, and like and idiot, I’m cupping my hands over the cover, shoving my face up close to it, trying to see if it glows. One fine day, I walked into B&N, rode the escalator upstairs and immediately was greeted by that anguished cover (for those who have not seen it, the art is reminiscent of the painting “The Scream”). I wander the library or the book store waiting for a book to talk to me, and tell me it’s my next read.
